Anime Lover with a Deep Love for Origami

Hello everyone, it's my first post on this forum and I'm very excited to be a part of this community. I'm interested in origami for a few solid years, basically 5 years in total, but only 4 of actual creating experience. Not much, but surely quite a lot of time as well. As my thread states, I'm a big fan of anime and Japanese culture in general. I just love animes and watched tons of them, same with Japanese culture - from their music to food, although I have never had a chance to visit Japan yet, I hope I will be granted such opportuntity someday.

Apart from work, unfortunately no university anymore :(, I watch a lot of anime, I love cycling and well.. a little bit of fitness as well, although I don't actually frequently attend gym - I just work out in home a little bit, doing some simple exercies - it really helps you get on with day-to-day activities and is a great way to free your mind, even better than origami in terms of resting after a hard day, where work has literally exhausted you. I actually prefer to focus on origami on weekends only as I simply feel too much tired after work in the evening, I rather either work out a little bit or just watch some anime, meet with my friends etc. It's pretty hard to stay motivated in the evening and dedicated enough to keep using your brain to create something>

I'm very excited that I was able to find this community, which even though is pretty small for this particular moment, we can see that it's growing pretty quick and there is already lots of relevant content out there. I'm sure I will make a great fit and I hope to be of an assistance for as many beginners as I can and I promise to be a good listener and keep applying advices from more advanced users

Origami surely isn't an easy hobby, but things that are hard are also usually those, that bring us biggest joy and satisfaction from our work. Even though I consider myself to be highly motivated and dedicated person, I very often struggle with getting myself back to 'work'. Like once something I was working on is actually pretty bad, I tend to lose my motivation totally and can't get myself to start creating anything else. I'm trying to fight this trait of mine, but it's so-so for now. I'm making progress with my keeping my attitude in reins, but well, seems like the best solutions for me at the moment is just to be successful.

Anyway, I'm really glad to be here and I hope I will be a great aid to this community and positively affect its development

Welcome! I'm not too much of an anime fan, but I have watched some relevant series. Glad to see you here, Origami is heavily ingrained in Japanese and Asian culture in general, so I feel pretty closely related to them as well. I may not like their music or anime, but food, Japanese samurai era and the amount of talented origami artists is surely appealing.

Shame, that you have never been to Japan yet and I hope, that you will be able to visit this country someday. It's a really lovely place, although I have only been to Tokyo for a month when I was outsourced to work there a little bit for company. Unfortunately, as I was heavily preoccupied with work I couldn't make any longer travels to other destinations, but I can assure you that seeing and experiencing in whole even a simple Tokyo is way too much for just a month. I feel like I should spend there at least 3 months to actually experience a big and extremely developed city like Tokyo, there is just so much to do, food stores everywhere, anime shops, very cool people, you can literally ask people for directions in English and they will guide you right to your destination, which is kind of the opposite of what I have experienced in Europe and North America.

Just make sure, that you bother people in the evening as Japanese people really value their work and they have very little time to spare during the day, but in the evening, when they are all post-work and are have some spare time, they are the friendliest bunch I ever had the possibility to meet. So yes, you definitely must go to Tokyo, especially if you love Japanese culture so much, you can't go wrong with this city. Hope you gonna make it!

Welcome! I love anime and Japanese culture as well, although I'm much less experienced in origami than you. Hopefully I will be able to learn a lot from you as well as others on this forums. I have registered just a couple of days earlier than you, so I believe I should actully make my own introduction thread as well. Cheers!

Welcome, good to have you here! Wish you all the best with your Origami projects, it surely isn't an easy hobby just like you said, but it can be extremely rewarding and satisfying once you put enough work. Considering your experience, I'm sure that you have already realized that, so not much else to say. Just stay safe and enjoy origami!

Thank you all for your kind words. Yes, I'm kind of in an creation crisis right now, just not sure on what I should focus next, been trying to create some anime characters, but can't get it right. We will see, I feel like I'm preoccupied with work lately and it has sure taken a toll on my productivity as well.

Leonard, thanks for briefly and very warm introduction to Japan. Seems like most people are saying the very same thing - that it's a great country with basically countless opportunities, that literally never gets boring. And the food <3 I literally instantly got hungry when I think of real Japanese Sushi or Ramen. Despite pretty classical, it's the most you can get here in the West and even then, I heard that Japanese food is just on a whole different level than what we can taste here. Well, I will see once I finally make it there. I have some money saved, so I could probably go for like 2 or 3 weeks, but that's not too long and will cost me quite a lot of money. I would actually prefer to be outsourced to work there like you do - but no idea on how to do this, their laws for hiring foreigners are pretty tough and I would need at least 5+ more years of experience in a relevant field to be granted this opportunity, unless the company I worked there had branches and I was specifically needed here. We will see, I will keep looking for opportunities in this regard, so some day I may be able to get there. Thanks again for all the kind words here, I appreciate it!

Welcome to the forums! I hope, that you will have a great stay and good luck with chasing your dream of living/visiting Japan. I had a chance to go to Japan during my college years, but I have chose Germany for my students exchange. It was a great experience, but sometimes I wish I had chosen Japan instead as Germany offered me very little in experiencing a totally different culture, just the language barrier and well, I had a chance to be around Oktoberfest, so that's something that one has to experience at least once in his life as well. But yeah, Japan is on my to-do list as well, but similiarly to you, I just don't see like half of my savings just to get there for a couple of weeks. I would prefer to be outsourced or work there, but as you said that seems like a very hard thing to do.
