Hello, I first was introduced to origami when I was 10 at our art museum and I still remember siting on the floor, the smell of the paper and the delight I felt after folding my first sailboat. Didn't do much origami again until about 30 years ago but have been folding like crazy ever sense. Never ceases to amaze me. Not much was available early so I bought every book I could get my hands on and now with the internet it great to see all the talented artists all over the world. I volunteer at a food pantry in the inner city and people who come there are quite often unhappy but I have origami at my desk and always get a smile. Origami is like magic. Margaret

I don’t do much origami but it fascinates me and I collect the patterns for “someday”. However “someday” I just keep collecting more patterns

I know the feeling.......I have been collecting supplies for all sorts of crafts also and have not done anything with the stuff! Origami is something I seem to do, do something with though. I don't know what keeps me from starting all my other craft ideas. Whatever it is must also be the reason I don't keep up with my housework also! I told my sister when I die she can have a big craft sale! Oh well, I'm happy figuring out how to fold paper so I guess I may as well carry on.

I also have lots of craft supplies. My favorite craft is beading. I am now trying Origami. It is so far the least expensive craft.

Greetings all, I've been a folder for over 50 years. A "Rupert" book got me interested back in the 1960's. "Rupert" was a British annual cartoon style book about a bear and his family. It always had an origami page. here in Australia our paper money changed to a polymer about 20 years ago. I so miss that paper money! It was the best folding paper.

Hi Margaret,
It is amazing how origami makes people smile, 😁.
My friend who takes me shopping will not take gas money from me, but she will except my little origami folded dollars, which always puts a smile on her face.
I told her at least she'll never be broke.
And if she forgets her purse and comes to a toll booth or needs to leave a tip, I do believe she'll be leaving a big smile.
Hope you keep sharing smiles.

Hi Roger, my friends are the same way. They are always so delighted when I give them origami. I just had coffee with an old neighbor who has moved away and I gave him an elephant, turkey, and conch shell. He was so happy! A few months ago I made him a feathered crane and made a little wire stand for it to sit on. He said he was going to keep it in his office by his computer so he could see it while he works. I volunteer at a food pantry 2 days a week and when I'm not busy then I work on whatever I am folding. It's in the inner city so some of the clients are really unhappy with their lives. If I have finished pcs then I give them to them. One lady saw me making a high heeled shoe and she was so excited. When she left I asked her if she would like it and I thought she would explode with happiness. That was over a year ago and when ever she comes back in she always tells me the shoe is on top of her TV and she doesn't let anyone touch it. Sometimes I leave little tiny frogs with my tips. Everyone is always pleased. I just love it!

Hi, that's nice to be able to learn together. Once you learn the symbols it is easy to fold. Don't get discouraged because it just takes practice and I use copy paper to fold with at first until I feel confident, then I use nicer origami paper. It's good to color on one side so you know which side to fold on when instructions say to fold on front or back. YouTube is a good source and you can pause it when you need to. Good luck.

Hello , I am Barbara from Lynchburg,Virginia. I am 77 yrs old and live alone with my 4 cats. I have been trying all sorts of origamy for many years and love working with paper. I saw your group and after reading the digests I am so happy to be able to learn new techniques and patterns. I use printer paper to make my first practice folds until I get more confident. This is such good therapy and so unique as everyone does not know how to do origamy or wants to take the time to learn. I'm always on the lookout for new things and sometimes it works for me and sometimes it doesn't. I have gone on YouTube and search for new toseasonal things to create. Thank you for accepting me into your group and may you all enjoy your holidays.

Hi Barbara, you sound like me except I have a dog. One time I came home and she had chewed up some origami turtles I had folded! Never before or since has she ever chewed anything up. Guess she dislikes turtles.......welcome to the group.

Thank you for the welcome Sorry about your turtles but I guess she just wanted to see what that thing tasted like. lol...thank goodness it was only paper. One of my cats, Lucy, likes scotch tape and crinkly sound paper.

Origami is helping me to adjust to living alone. I spend one morning a week sitting with a third grader who talks too much. I have made origami for the class including a crane, a cobra and a Xmas stocking with small peppermint canes. I will do the frog. Maybe a dragon and the boomerang. I am having so much fun, Try volunteering at a school if you can. Today's teachers and staffs are amazing.
