Hi, I am a science teacher and I attended an origami workshop arranged by my school where I learned the nuances of this art. I further delved into this hobby and now, I teach origami to a bunch of students in the school premises. I am not a professional artist but yes, I am very well familiar with the art form. I have worked on many folds and that includes 3D folds as well. The number of students are gradually increasing and I'm looking to start classes outside the school premises as well. I'm not sure as to what step should I take towards constructing an origami class on my own.
My main aim is not to generate profit but to educate more and more students about this origami. In my 8 years of teaching, I have discovered my love for this creative field. The idea of creating artworks through a sheet of paper with utter dedication and patience, using appropriate tools really captured my interests. I am in favor of including origami as a part of primary education because I think enhancing creativity is as important as elevating academic scores.
Looking out for suggestions and ideas? If anyone has any kind of recommendation or advice that could help me in achieving my dream, please feel free to comment. Thanks in advance.
Hi SophiaMadison, I really appreciate this initiative and I agree with your thought that extra curricular activities are as important as any academic stability. If you're looking to expand your origami classes to educate more students, then I would advise you to rent a place and transform into a nice origami studio. You can promote your studio on social platforms.
What I'm suggesting are long-term investments but little things add to a common good. Take guidance from an art studio in your locality; they can guide you on the nuances as well as the investments related to it. Anyways my best wishes are with you, keep polishing your skills and do post updates about your progress.
I am an origami artist and I have my own studio where I experiment with different origami styles, but I never thought of something like this. You have made me ponder over starting my own origami classes and passing on my knowledge. I have a studio, I could renovate it and transform it into a classroom.
I would suggest that you could also make some space in your own home for a studio (if you have an empty garage, it would be ideal). Start with a small space and then shift to something bigger, I guess that would the approach for the moment. I am also open for a collaboration of sorts. Do let me know if you're interested.
Anyways, thank you so much for inspiring me and I wish you all the luck in whatever decision you choose to make.
Thanks ryangabriel, I shall take your idea into consideration and seek guidance from a local art studio. I wish I could soon post the success story of my studio as well. Fingers crossed.
Thanks AnnaArt, I feel good to have inspired someone. I do have a garage in my house which is currently vacant. But to be honest, I'm a little skeptical to venture out on my own. I really find the idea of a collaboration enticing. Let's elaborate this idea further on a call. I have pinged you my skype id. Feel free to call me at your convenience.
Hey SophiaMadison, I'm not sure how you intend to begin your classes conventionally, but if the idea is to educate more people about origami, the best way to reach out is through an online platform.
You could create a Youtube channel and reach out to a wider audience that way. Online mediums allow you to expand your knowledge across boundaries without moving out of the comforts of your home. I strongly suggest you opt for online tutorials as it requires no investment and offers good returns (you could monetize your channel).
I'll get in touch with you soon Sophia.
SarahNicolas, many of my friends have also suggested the online mode of teaching and I've kept that as an option as well. However, I'm really keen to start an origami studio of my own as I feel a virtual interaction is no match for a physical one. I'm kind of more inclined towards offline classes as I'm not that confident of my success in the digital realm. However, thanks a lot for your suggestion. I do appreciate it.
