Guidance regarding origami springs

Hey everyone, I have been practicing origami for quite some time now. I have been following this YouTube channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHgzkamFrdzjmvmailsR8kQ. It educates on basic origami techniques and styles that has helped me with the fundamentals of this art. Origami has always enticed me with its innovative designs and dimensions. I've even decorated my room with my works. However, I still call myself a beginner.

Recently I attempted the origami spring and I must say, this design is challenging. I'm not able to create that perfect spring and there is always some issue or the other, like the fold developing wrinkles or the paper ripping off. And even if I manage to overcome these problems, the end result of my origami looks like a crushed tower. It is quite frustrating to see yourself fail again and again. I am looking for guidance on creating that flawless origami spring.

I really can't understand where I'm going wrong and it would be great if anyone could point out my mistake. If any of you have gone through the same dilemma, I'm relying on your assistance to lead me towards correcting my wrong. Awaiting your suggestions and guidance.

I can sense a young and vibrant origami enthusiast in you. If you're looking to create an origami spring, I would suggest that you should practice squash folds thoroughly as these folds form the foundation of spring origami. Try to create as many squash fold designs as you can. Get familiar with it, your hands and fingers must be very flexible and in sync with the folding pattern.

Go through this link http://www.origami-instructions.com/origami-squash-fold.html It explains in detail the step by step procedure for squash folding along with a pictorial representation. Do let me know if this helps your cause. Best of luck in your quest to perfect spring origami. And a word of advise, keep this passion for origami alive. Never let that zeal in you die.

Cheers

Thanks a lot jacksonhunter. I'll practice the squash fold and see if it can improve the final output in any way. Will update the results (hopefully positive) soon.

JoshuaSamuel, I would suggest you watch some tutorials on origami springs. I can understand your situation and I know how frustrating it gets when you're not able to mold your imagination into reality. I have also gone through a struggle with the design of origami springs, but guess what, finally, I got it right. I totally relied on YouTube tutorials for the correct procedures and you too should do that. You can subscribe to this channel "Jo Nakashima - Origami Tutorials" (I'm surprised that you haven't come across this channel yet, considering that you learn only through online channels). His teachings have really helped me improve my skills in this art.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aul0SzPVsls This is the link for making origami springs from his channel; it explains the step by step procedure of creating an alluring origami spring. It also mentions the common mistakes we all tend to make while creating this design and the ways through which we can avoid such silly blunders. Go through the link and give it a try again. Don't lose your hope, keep trying and hopefully, you will succeed eventually like I did.

Hey JoshuaSamuel, I can absolutely empathize with you; I have been fighting my own battle with origami springs. However, in my case, an origami tutor came to my rescue. He educated me thoroughly on the nooks and crannies of this complicated design. I would also suggest you seek out professional help. A personal tutor is essential for developing an art form. I won't deny the fact that video tutorials are an interactive way of learning something, but the conventional approach has always been the key to master any art.

I would recommend that you join an origami class or seek guidance from an origami expert. This will definitely help you in getting the desired efficient results. The above is my strong suggestion, however, the final call is yours. You have to decide what suits you the best. I wish you succeed in creating a perfect origami spring and we get to read your success story soon.

It makes me feel a lot better knowing that I'm not the only one who has been troubled with this design. You all have had your share of misery in perfecting the origami spring. JoshuaSamuel, you may be right in pointing out that conventional approach is always the best approach to develop an art. However, I would like to continue my mode of learning via videos only as I find it easier and cost effective. In case they won't work for me, I will get in touch with you for the contact details of a good origami tutor.

Thank you all for your suggestions and guidance. I shall keep updating my progress and hopefully post my success story soon.
