Guidelines for Conducting an Origami Exhibit

I am planning to put up an origami exhibition in few months at our school library. They offer a space for local artists and collectors to display their stuff regularly. To protect every bit of the exhibit, it'll be in glass cases. My plan is to have more than 30 models on display which will include my designs and other people's designs making it a blend of mine and others. For each of the piece, I'll make a description coupled with a few histories.

But, the point is that I need everyone's view on including crease pattern of models made by other designers, especially the ones that are not free online, but whose designed I purchased online such as Lang's model or Kamiya's model. For me, I think it's a cool thing to do as long as I'll give credit to the author. Please is this legit?

To answer your question; I'll rather not display the CPs of other designers' models during the exhibition.

I'll probably be doing something similar to that soon, so I'll appreciate if aspects such as sizes, how to display, models by other designers, how many models, and lots more are added to the guide. This is an eye opener I think.

You can go ahead to display the Cps from other designers, it's cool though, as long as the Cps are available for free online. I can as well visit Kamiya's web and lookup some CPs and also do some printout, and so can anybody else. Why on earth will it be wrong to display such at a free public exhibition like this, since you'll give credit to whosoever own the designs?

I was actually referring to those CPs that aren't available for free online. I'm not sure about the free ones.

Using Lang and Kamiya might be a bad example when the likes of VOG books and Quentin Tollip offer nice ones. Lang and Kamiya post the majority of their CPs online making them a bad example. Based on what I have gathered over time, the CPs in Origami Sequence or VOG 2 are made available only in books which I think their CPs should not be displayed. So, if the CPs are free online, I don't see reasons why they should not be included.

Versauce, you can just write the designers for permission to display their CPs at your exhibition. The worst that can ever happen is for them to say no and you'll end up displaying their models without the CP. And the best case scenario is getting a yes for an answer and you'll probably convey your respect directly for their work.

Mind you, your description, the models, and folds are much more important than having the presence or absence of a CP.

Wish you the best with your Exhibition.

You are right DanBrown, I already made reservations for that and it's in my plan to contact the ones I can in a short notice. And as for the presence and absence of a CP, I just think it's gonna be a cool visual including them. I value people's opinion, thanks a lot.

I've done a couple of exhibition, so I'll give you some few words to note.

Firstly, consider your space as regards the number of pieces you are planning to showcase, 30 pieces sounds like a lot unless you have an expansive space.

Secondly, with respect to the crease patterns, left to me, I'll only include them if I've gotten permission from their creators and if it'll make my exhibition an impressive one,

Thirdly, Pick models that are appropriate for the available space and be aware that large models in a small space will look crowded while miniature in a large space will look scanty.

My fourth point is that it's an opportunity to impress your audience, so make use of your best paper and techniques.

And lastly, don't forget about your model, play into the lighting to make it more colorful, and don't forget to post and share photos from the exhibition when you are done for others to learn on this thread.
