Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. All the recommended books seem like a good source of elementary learning along with advanced techniques. I shall analyze these books and decide on one that would be best suited for my son. And i will surely update you'll about the book I've chosen.

I don't think that books are a better source of learning when to a video tutorial. A video adds an interactive factor to conventional learning. The methods suggested in the video and the book can be the same, however, videos are more fun and add to a visual appeal, especially for kids. That's my point of view, feel free to opt for a book if you feel otherwise. Cheers.

Hi, My name is Karen. I have 4 books to suggest to your son: 1) Origami Zoo An Amazing Collection of Folded Paper Animals, by Robert Lang and Steven Weiss. The book aims to increase origami skills, with diagrams, and easily understood directions; 2) The Complete Book of Origami Step-by-Step Instructions in over 1000 Diagrams, by Robert Lang; 3) Star Wars Origami 36 Amazing Paper-folding Projects from a Galaxy Far, Far Away...., by Chris Alexander. This book has some easy and intermediate models, and lots of complex. 4) O R I G A M I OMNIBUS Paper Folding for Everybody, by Kunmihiko Kashahara. This book leaves models undone for the user to come up with their own finishes. It also has finished models, some are do-able, and some make you ‘stretch to Mars’, trying to figure them out. I do have books with complex models, but have lots of difficulty with them. I use origami to ‘scratch my brain’. It’s good for that. I wish your son well, on his Origami adventure.

There are 3 excellent books that are available as free downloads in pdf format from scribd.com: Robert Lang's "The Complete Book of Origami" and "Origami Zoo" and "Origami Sea Life" by Robert Lang and John Montroll. The first has an extensive section on origami techniques and symbols and all three have lots of diagrams of origami models that range in complexity from fairly easy to very difficult.
