Need to check it out! Sounds intriguing!
Agreed! "Ah, I know origami! I can make a crane!". It's hard for them to see the work you put in making a model.
Evamccorman, haha, sounds cool. I really like it!
It may be hard to impress a person that doesn't know anything about origami even with the most complicated model, just because not everyone is able to understand how hard it is to fold a paper into a certain shape without using a drop of glue or not cutting the paper with scissors. So get ready to unfolding the model each time you want to prove that it wasn't glued from several sheets.
Lampshades are easy to make and you can pick the pattern you like, there are lots of them. Or a vase. Don't expect too much from the first try, but you'll cope finally. It took me a couple of tries before mastering my first vase, you do the folding in the right order and everything turns nice.
mark56, Why should using glue be called cheating, when wetfolding is ok? It changes the structure of paper even more dramatically. Nothing more than one of the techniques. Also it helps preserve the works.
Sleepy13, here is a step by step tutorial you might like - https://www.homemade-gifts-made-easy.com/origami-money-flowers.html. It is super easy, but looks very lovely. Keep in mind that you'll need a bit of craft wire for making it!
