That is indeed a pretty nice idea. I see that you guys are really into hats, Leonard seems to have already done all kind of styles and is wearing them on daily basis. I did create some nice hats before, but I have to admit, that I'm not really that much into hats or baseball caps actually. Last time I wore a baseball cap was when I was a kid and it was extremely hot, so my mom bought me a cap so I can protect my head from too much or sun. So I will probably pass on the idea, although I will gladly create a nicely done hat to put on my shelf or something. I'm not an anime fan, but I actually kind of like the design of Luffy's Straw Hat, so I may do something in this regard, just I think I will go for a different colors to keep it unique. Maybe I will wear it on a Friday Night party with my friends, once it actually happens to loosen the mood a little bit, but I'm sure I won't wear one on daily basis.

Cool idea regardless and good job on actually coming up with your own idea and executing it.

Welcome to forums! Based on your name (Japanese), seems like you are into Japanese culture as well, just like Flying Deidara, that have made an introduction earlier. Nice to meet you and I hope we will hold a lot of relevant discussions here on the forum and we all will have a good time!

Welcome to the forums! I hope, that you will have a great stay and good luck with chasing your dream of living/visiting Japan. I had a chance to go to Japan during my college years, but I have chose Germany for my students exchange. It was a great experience, but sometimes I wish I had chosen Japan instead as Germany offered me very little in experiencing a totally different culture, just the language barrier and well, I had a chance to be around Oktoberfest, so that's something that one has to experience at least once in his life as well. But yeah, Japan is on my to-do list as well, but similiarly to you, I just don't see like half of my savings just to get there for a couple of weeks. I would prefer to be outsourced or work there, but as you said that seems like a very hard thing to do.

I doubt that you are a bad teacher Leonard - you seem to be extremely helpful on forums :P It's just that as you said, it's hard to get people interested in nowadays considered kind of alternative hobbies - origami, drawing etc. People can develop their characters in video games, watch movies and tv shows, play some games on their superb iPhones. Too many options and frankly, for most people technology is just much more appealing, + this is what their friends do - and they can relate, compete with their friends. It's extremely important aspect - competition and relating to each other, if there were more kids doing origami than playing video games, children would definitely focus on origami much more. But picking up origami to do in a meanwhile nowadays basically means that you will severely limit your relations with other kids and your friends. It's actually even worse than playing video games, for a children to feel kind of like an outsider etc. At least that's how I see it. So even though coffeegirl definitely has a higher chance of succeeding with getting attention of her family than you had at public school, in the end, they will most likely go back to their everyday activities anyway, and origami will be left only as a distant thing, that they have done in the past. Yet, it's worth a shot and you will definitely have a good time showing kids around origami and the real art. Who knows, maybe it will plant a seed that will blossom when they get older?

Anyway, keep your models simple - animals, simple to do and not too much time consuming. Only when you see that they are interested show them something, that is relatively harder and something that they can spend more time on. Otherwise, if they are not interested and they will struggle to get something done, they will quickly get bored and probably leave the table. Try to think of this as if you were a kid - would you want to do origami when you were their age? Even though I love origami now, I doubt that I would get interested as a kid, even moreso as an teenager. Too many distractions to see the real art and find your true self, when you are a kid or even a teenager, you usually look for simplest solutions and the easiest way to entertain yourself in a spare time. Origami is anything but this.

I am far from being experienced - got overall like 1 experience with origami, but I have tried to make a few of more advanced characters - dragon and elephant, both turned out to be pretty okay in my opinion. Of course over the inter were much more detailed and this is where I find the biggest struggle to be honest. It's not about making a certain character, it's about detailing them, adding certain features is extremely troublesome. I haven't tried creating any anime characters yet nor any other to be honest, but I will gladly try soon. I don't hope to make anything that will actually resemble them, but hopefullly I will at least be able to keep a human form haha.

No, no, no Leonard. Don't worry, Catherine may have been a little bit harsh on you, but you did a pretty good job. Although there is only 5 tutorials out there, I'm sure there will be people who will find it helpful. I'm not a total beginner as I already have 1 years of experience with origami, but I have understood your tutorials without a problem and was able to do both bench and the chick without any other tutorials, but yeah, I have already done similar stuff in the past.

I especially liked your chick exmaple - I know it's a pretty simple tutorial, but I have actually learnt quite a lot from it as the video I learnt how to build a chick from was entirely different - and yeah, the outcome was slightly different as well, that's why it's great to have as many tutorials as possible made by different people and from a different perspective. Everyone learnt from other books or other people, some have mastered certain figures themselves, so it's extremely helpful to have as many tutorials as possible. Even the very simple chick can be made in three different ways or probably even more, and every single of those ways are a great learning experience. So, keep the thread and don't worry so much, even though it's a pretty new forum and most people that have joined this community already had some experience with this, I'm sure there will be some newbie to chip in and show you some love
